Meaning

The phrase awooga is famous in an older cartoon where a wolf portrays a man who is after a beautiful woman who continues to taunt him with her stunning beauty. The metaphor is the wolf howling the phrase “Awooga!”

It is also known to mean jaw dropping or highly impressed. In modern terms, the phrase has become popular thanks to Pixar’s film Turning Red. One of the characters. Mai, says Awooga repeatedly when she wants to express her feelings of attraction.

Origin

Awooga is a term or phrase for being highly attracted to a woman or group of women. It can also be used to refer to men, but this is not commonly found. The original saying is old and has been translated differently over the years. It is most prevalent in older cartoons where men find an attractive woman and then howl up at the moon or sky and stomps their feet while doing so.

In the past, approximately the year 1943, Tex Avery coined the phrase awooga in a fictional cartoon world where a wolf that is over the top in love with little red riding hood and her performance up on stage. You can see during the carton that the wolf is panting, jumping up into the air, and banging his hands on the table to express an extreme attraction to the girl. At one point, steam comes out of his ears, and his eyes bulge from his head. This term continues primarily online, where videos and pictures of women are posted with the title or heading to say “Awooga!” to help describe the creators out of his mind attraction to them.
