Anyone that has been on the Internet over the last few years (especially as different social media platforms have gained more popularity) has seen any number of women dressed suggestively posting videos on TikTok, YouTube, or streaming on the popular gaming platform Twitch.
Many of these women use their bodies as a means to get attention for themselves, and because of this, the Internet developed its own word to refer to them. That being, “e-thot”. This post unpacks the meaning and origin of the expression.
Meaning
The phrase “e-thot” is used to describe women who use their bodies or their sexuality to gain more followers, fame, or money on various different social media platforms. They often dress in tight-fitting clothing, or are scantily clad.
Often they deny accusations of being an “e-thot”, claiming they do not dress provocatively and that those clothes are simply more comfortable for them, or outright deny that they are trying to get fame and money at all.
There have been various women on the Internet that have been accused of being e-thots, including popular YouTuber Belle Delphine, particularly because of the clothing she wears in her videos. More information can be found in the video (here).
Example Usage
“Have you seen what Kelly posts on TikTok? That e-thot doesn’t leave anything to the imagination.”
“The things Rebecca posts on Instagram really makes her look like an e-thot.”
“All of these high value men end up getting trapped by e-thot’s that have no other value aside from their looks”.

“Belle Delphine is definitely one of the best-known e-thots on the Internet right now.”
Origin
The Internet saw its first social media platform in 1997. Since that year, more and more of these websites have taken the world by storm. Instagram was created in 2010, YouTube in 2005, and TikTok in 2016. As sites and apps like these have grown, so have terms like “e-thot”.
The first time “e-thot” was seen on the Internet was 2015. It is argued that the 2018 scandal between popular YouTuber PewDiePie and lesser-known creator Alinity brought more recognition to the term, as Alinity is typically viewed as being an “e-thot”. The term has continued to grow in use ever since.

Ways People May Incorrectly Say E-Thot
“E-thot” refers to women who dress or act provocatively on different social media platforms on the Internet. Referring to a women who does not dress or act this way as an “e-thot” would be incorrect, as well as attempting to call a woman who is not on the internet an “e-thot”. This term is also solely used to refer to women, so trying to refer to a man as an “e-thot” (even if he is acting provocatively on the Internet) would be incorrect. Some ways that “e-thot” is used incorrectly are:
- Amy wears turtlenecks and jeans every day. She’s such an e-thot.
- I’ve never seen Ashley post on any social media site. She must be an e-thot.
- Rachel wears jackets in every YouTube video she posts. She’s an e-thot.
- Mike is such an e-thot. I’ve never seen him wear a shirt in his TikTok videos.
